ActivitiesGolf:
The renowned and challenging golf course of PARQUE DE FLORESTA is 1 mile away. A 30% reduction on green fees is available for guests. The links course at PALMARES is 20 minutes away and PENINA course is 30 minutes away. The new course at ESPICHE is now open Horse Riding There are several riding stables in the area catering for all levels of rider and offering lessons and hacks either on inland tracks or on the beach. See TIFFANY'S RIDING STABLES for more information. Swimming and Surfing: The fact that the beaches are washed twice daily by the tides(unlike the Mediterranean) ensures that they are clean and fresh. The clear turquoise water is stunning and the rock structure has provided nature with the means to sculpt wonderful shapes from the cliffs. Beaches to suit all tastes; large, small, caves, rocks, swimming, surfing, or water sports are all within minutes by foot or car The south facing beaches tend to be gentler and the beaches on the west coast provide exhilarating breakers for those wanting to surf. All can be subject to strong currents and care needs to be taken to obey the warning flags. The beaches are within a few minutes by foot or car. For the young at heart there are several WATER PARKS in the region, the nearest being the other side of Lagos and easily within reach for a family fun day out. |
Fishing:
Boats can be hired from Lagos for Deep-Sea fishing trips and there is superb fishing all along the coast. Tennis: There are 4 competition standard tennis courts at PARQUE DE FLORESTA Lawn Bowling: An active and friendly bowls club is available for visitors at Parque da Floresta Walking: There are wonderful walks along the cliffs and on inland paths. Bring suitable shoes! One of our personal favourites is along the cliffs to Sagres, stopping for a swim at some of the coves en route with lunch at one of the beach restaurants. A plate of fresh sardines with bread and a bottle of local wine takes some beating! Bird Watching & Flowers: A wide variety of bird life is to be seen There is a nature reserve on the marshlands between Portimao and Lagos, providing a rich bird life. We saw a (confused?) Osprey there in July. In January and February there is a sea of white almond blossom covering the hillsides , after which the mimosa provides masses of brilliant yellow. From April to July, acres of land are covered by the sticky leaved cystus with its beautiful Christmas Rose type flower. and myriads of wild flowers are to be seen. The air is fragrant with the perfume of the aromatic herbs and trees. |
